:: History of château de Pray

Nestling in a bosky wood, perched on the terraced slopes overlooking the Loire river, the Château de Pray, named after Geoffroy de Pray in 1244, is trustly majestic. The numerous towers bear witness to its past role as a stronghold.. It was not until the Renaissance that the château became a place of residence.

In 1631, it came into the possession to the commissionner of artillery to the queen of England . During the 18th century, it belonged to the concilorto the kings ot Spain and France. Later, it was  owned by an officer close to, La Fayette, whose portrait hang above the 19th century fireplace, which is decorated in ceramic tiles depicting figures from mythology.

In the 20th century, the wife of the writer Alphonse Daudet lived here.
Pray was one of the first châteaux to be opened to guests, offering an inimitable art de vivre in a unique setting steeped in history...
